Missoula, MT – Whitefish, MT

Today was a short day. We woke up this morning to clouds and wet parking lot. So we checked the weather and it said there was a 40% chance of rain in Glacier National Park, but we decided to take our chances and see what would happen. We rode North on 93 until we got to 35 North which followed along the east side of Flathead Lake (the largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi). While we were riding alongside the lake you could see a large dark cloud coming towards us. On one side of us the sky was a bright blue with nice fluffy clouds, and on the other side it was just dark. Soon, it started to sprinkle, so I put my camera away. Then we got on 206 North which led us to 2 East where it started to rain wicked hard with some sleet. It was a cool 48 degrees, and my gloves were soaked, so my hands were freezing. We made it to the Glacier West entrance and asked the park ranger what the weather was going to be like for the rest of the day. He said it was a 90% chance of rain, so we decided to head back to the nearest town to wait out the rain and try our chances tomorrow. So we backtracked on 2 to 93 in Whitefish, MT. There we found a motel to stay in and went out to a delicious italian restaurant called Mambo Italiano.

The best part of the day included dad finding his wallet (after he lost it in his rain pants ha ha) and seeing another BMW GS 1200 rider from Alaska with a dog on the back of his bike. The dog was super cute! She was wearing a harness and goggles to protect her eyes from the wind and dirt. We pulled into a gas station and I talked to the guy for a little bit. He told me that the goggles are called “doggles” which are specifically made for dogs. Crazy!
