I have finally finished the second version of astronaut. It came out absolutely amazing. I started out by printing an image of the Carina Nebula on lustre paper. The image is of “a 50-light-year-wide view of the central region of the Carina Nebula where a maelstrom of star birth – and death – is taking place.” Then I cut out shapes in the paper to form a stencil of an astronaut. I then painted a 4 x 2 ft. piece of wood black with many thin layers of paint so you can still see the wood grain. Then I mounted the image between the wood and a sheet of plexiglass. I also put spacers on the back of the wood so it floats one inch away from the wall. The lustre paper has an almost pearlescent quality which gives off an amazing effect. The plexi makes it quite reflective so it was difficult to take a picture of it without any reflections. Here’s the best I could do in my house.

A Study in White

I began shooting completely white objects in order to show how light and shadow effect an image. Since these objects are completely white, the only thing that defines their shapes are their shadows.

Red Flannel Hash

Considering the fact that I love making book layouts and taking photographs, I’ve decided to compile all of my favorite recipes into a cookbook with my personal photos.

This morning I woke up early, so I decided to cook up some Red Flannel Hash with eggs and surprise my roommate, Steph, with a delicious breakfast. It came out absolutely amazing.

Want to make this yourself? See the page from my cookbook here.

NDE Magazine

Shot the cover for NDE Magazine yesterday. It came out exactly how I had envisioned it. Don’t you love it when that happens? We covered our model, Sean, with approximately 3000 locks. Not very comfortable for him, but the photos came out great.

Schuyler. Just messin around on the set.
